Yum, LSD.

Postby Pezz3D » Tue Apr 12, 2011 9:46 am

So I feel like, retarded. I just found out of this place and I'm admittedly ashamed. Some of you guys might remember the handle . Jee-whiz am I excited to be here. I'll just keep this shit rolling with new posts as they come but for now I'll just post the better of what I've been workin` on as of late to get things rolling. P.S I use FW Acrylics and stuff. This is all done in traditional mediums.

Real bitchin style! There's something about the colors that are bugging me in the portraits.. it doesn't feel harmonious. I guess I'm just not sure where to be looking because of the high contrasts in value and color.

I agree, the style is cool, but it doesn't really add up with the color blocks. I think it either needs to be more "planned" or more random tie-dye madness.

Thanks for you comments guys, I've only done a couple pieces in that psychedelic-ish style and in reality its more so based on 17th and 18th century uses of color zones in portraiture but taken to an extreme. Yellow on the forehead, reds on the cheeks, and so on. It's not necessarily an attempt at any poppy fauv style. I definitely agree with colors and values being a bit distracting though. I try to keep taking shots of it and desaturating in photoshop to get a better look but sometimes I get lost in the painting and forget. The style is definitely still developing though. I've gotten both extremely positive reactions from it and in contrast extremely negative responses as well. I'll be keepin` at it though either way. I'll be sure to keep your guys thoughts in mind tho goin` forward.

Carl Sagan piece coming soon.

I love these ..

I don't think it's the color I think it's the value that hurts the images
I love the colors..

try to desaturate the image, adjust the levels, and overlay the original... or some other voodoo

Great paintings, think you just need a little harmony unless you want the yellow red blue scheme to be the thing. maybe ad some warmth to the blue?

but going off those solid colors in visible spectrum red is lower than blue so having red at the bottom might be more pleasing to the eye.

different strokes for different folks tho. great paints.

Kevin: At the moment the red to blue thing is the general scheme...

Really digging the new pieces, especially the david bowie.

I think i's a really cool style, and once you really nail it down and find your stride, its gonna look awesome.

Have you ever thought of doing one of these all digital? It would make it a lot easier to play with different values and colors schemes, and just experimenting in general.

Suarez: Thank you sir. I'm definitely still in process of nailing it down and I hope it will look awesome. Right now I'm actually doing a 22x30 in. MLK jr. We'll see how that goes. I have thought about doing them digitally but I really enjoy working traditionally. I do however think that's some damn good advice. I need to try some mock-ps and see if I can get some slightly different colors schemes workings. Hadn't even thought about it.

Nova has a point. I can't look at them without seeing the butterfly rash anymore. Anyway, it's just a joke, I think they are great.

Geckzilla: I was being sarcastic in my reply. I do agree with the criticism and I'll def try and kill that effect a bit in the future. It is an admittedly funny observation even if it does make me hurt inside a little bit.

I don't really think you need to change it... and I don't think it was criticism meant to hurt you. Just a comment.

I spent a good couple of minutes watching that gif. I also just want to say how much I love that Harvey Milk portrait several posts back - the colors are pitch perfect.
