and a little rant :

WHY COULNDNT THEY DECIDE ON ONE ANTAGONIST? weve got albino raver bodybuilders, waterdwelling penii, an evil android/guy pearce in crappy oldman-makeup, a tentacle-challenged squid, and the black oil from x-files. (and also a rubber xenomorph with a conehead) it started to feel like the monster gallery from cabin in the woods, only...worse.

More than Alien vs Predator 2 ? :stare:

I got to agree with Emanu on almost every part, I didn't enjoy it too much.

There were some cool bits if you just looked at it thinking about composition, but the story was a bit rubbish.

Took my mom to see the avengers last night as a belated mothers day get together and we all totally loved it. So much fun!

Prometheus...

...was like the album an ageing band makes trying to recapture their halcyon, except with better production... but lacking soul and the exuberance of the gritty original works.

I had low expectations as the trailers left me cold, but I had hope as a fan of the earlier movies, however, the movie was less imaginative than I feared.

Just came across this and it's, pretty much, exactly how I feel about Prometheus. Lots of spoilers, so be warned.

yes, that. eloquently put, adi. and people say "you shouldnt expect it to be alien", but I found the problem to be the other way around, it feels like rehashed pieces of all the other alien movies taped together very loosely.

sorry if I go on and on about this movie, but I think it could be the single most disappointing movie experience in my life. no biggie.

I didn't see Prometheus yet, but comparing it to alien seems like a very unfair thing to do. They seem like radically different beasts... Alien is tight, with a strong main character and great designs, but that's pretty much it... The story is far from being original, with a paper-thin plot, the crew is mostly expendable even though the characters are easily recognizable, the whole "let's throw an android hidden in the bunch" is totally silly when you look at it...
It's one of my all time favorites, but it's lacking in a lot of departments, even if it's awesome everywhere else...

Now, there's been a lot of mystique created afterwise, but just like The Thing, it's a great at what it tries to be, a thriller/horror flick.
Perhaps having Prometheus being an Alien prequel is a huge handicap, even if it was the new Inception (which isn't Casablanca either), since Alien is placed on the silliest pedestal. It deserves praises, but it has come to a point where everything you'll do that touches the mythology seems wrong no matter what.

Now, since I haven't seen prometheus, the movie may just be stupid, or simply trying too hard and falling flat...

As long as he doesn't include the ghost of Roy as some wise old Ben Kenobi AI, I'll be happy...

Ahahahah who am I kidding, I won't anyway. :fcuk:

Emanu, I agree completely. I wasn't expecting or hoping for Alien at all...

...and after years of Ridley Scott saying this is its own thing, I was actually quite disappointed by how much burdened this movie was by Alien and just how much it was trying to, unnecessarily, explain the various concepts we saw in the earlier movies. Some of the stuff was practically spoon fed to the audience in very clumsy ways.

But all of that aside, it's was just a mess of a script with absurd holes and incredibly clumsy/ill thought out plot devices.

As I mentioned though, the trailers failed to excite or intrigue me, it all seemed very ordinary, so, going into it, I was hoping for the best but not expecting much.

Prometheus - didn't really enjoy it that much:
Like Emanu and Adi said, too many plot holes. The biggest one by far being where that giant facehugger creature came from. Was it the embryo that was inside Noomi? I thought she "decontaminated" that in the chamber. How did it get so freaking huge on it's own?
Once more, a chest-burster grows into a face-hugger, which makes a fully-formed alien burst from an alien's chest? Biology fiction just got thrown out the window!
I liked the greek/german raver space jockey design. I'd say I loved all the alien designs in general, but I wished there was some industrial-design tie-in from the original films (Older or later versions of the pulse rifles).
Noomi watching her husband get torched was the most intense part for me.

I finally managed to watch a movie in time to discuss it here WOHOO!
So, Prometheus:

I agree with all that's been said, except I wasn't hyped up at all, so I was pleasantly surprised in a couple of moments and with the overall mood. Visually it was nice, the creatures, the stuff inside the buildings and some design ideas were fresh but still had a touch of oldschool slimyness/trippyness that reminded me of 70's horror, the planet was great, loved the silicon storm... it could have been good. :grr:

But yeah, as a whole I thought it was quite a mess. Really inconsistent acting, paper-thin character development except for 1 or 2, and crap script (characters acted extremely weird sometimes for no reason, and when they make the snap decision to go WHEEE and crash the ship I felt it was the biggest drama fail in the history of cinema).

I could swallow some things, like the multiple alien forms (liked the snake facehugger coming out of the black goo) and Guy's silly old make-up - he was trying to fight death, so maybe he'd had a ton of skin jobs done that made him look like Grandpa in Texas Chainsaw Massacre. But no matter how much I tried to accept, the film really ended up collapsing under its own weight sooner than later.

It could really do without the "Look, it's Ripley VS monster face-off all over again" ending, and those minutes after the ship crashed could be used for the scenes that were awfully rushed. Like when Weyland meets the creator - this should be the film's climax, for god's sake, and it ends in 2 seconds with the damn thing going Oi Ska! and punching everybody. Way to fuck it up, can't think of a worse way.

Maybe the extended DVD version will compensate this a bit, but the theatrical version is pure fail in plot and drama management.

Also, if it's not the same planet, why crash the ship in a way that makes it look exactly like the one in Alien??? It's impossible not to think it's the same one when the camera looks up to it. This is even worse if you think of the scenes the inside the ship. When the chair rotates and the ship is activated I really felt it was history being made in that Alien 1 place we all know, and to read it's just another ship after all really makes it feel really contrived.

Time to shut up. Looking forward to Cosmopolis now.

Prometheus:

A lot of people are bothered by the look of the jockeys, but that's one thing which didn't bother me because they looked like Michelangelo's David, which, in turn, tied in nicely with our (as in humanity's) traditional vision of aesthetic perfection. As in, it was in our genes to see that look as ideal.

Hahaha the thing that got me was

noomi's boyfriend, who got all demotivated when it "was just another tomb", they get the jockey head back to the ship, open it up, bring it back to semi life, and all the while he's just sitting there moping in the background. i'm very curious to what's in the deleted scenes.

also, neville page pls
i whip my flares back and forth
