18 Duke Bathin

Bathin is a Duke (Great Duke according to Pseudomonarchia Daemonum) of Hell, who has under his command thirty legions of demons. He knows the virtues of precious stones and herbs, and can bring men suddenly from one country to another. He helps one attain astral projection, and takes you where ever you want to go.

He is depicted as a strong man with the tail of a serpent, riding a pale horse.

I want to go for a medieval vibe on this one. Static, unnatural posing. A demon white horse covered in a blanket of herbs and flora. The demon (I will play around with his facial design) sat atop the horse sniffing a bouquet of herbs. Conjuring the form of a human face in his other hand.

I dig the posing and styling—are you thinking of something done in line, or a more painted finish?

Ever thought of incorporating the tail into the frame (well If you are going with a frame that is)? I like the idea how it is though. Are you planning to break it into shapes like a patchwork, possibly dark lineart like stained glass windows? Musings. Not sure if sniffing some flowers brings the right message across.

fellow bathin-er =D

i like the direction it's going...it evokes the kind of illustrations that one would actually find on a tarot card (or demon card in this case).

I actually like the flower sniffing, identifies him as a demon that appreciates the more delicate aspects of his art. what is the right message in any case?...

Looks really good so far. Nice style. Only thing I dont like that much is his frizzy hair, makes him look like Richard Simmons :hee:

Also the horns you had on him in the sketch gave a nicer continuous curve in combination with his body I think.
